Lidl Distribution Centre
A turnkey rooftop solar solution delivering significant on-site renewable generation.
Overview
- Project: Lidl Distribution Centre, Newbridge
- Client: Enerpowe & Lidl
- Objective: Reduce the facility's carbon output by approximately 473 tonnes annually.
- Service Provided: Source, procure and supply a large rooftop PV infrastructure, including mounting, inverters and associated electrical system
Results
- Efficient installation of 4,200+ panels, Ireland's largest PV installation at the time
- Provided over 25% of the Distribution Centre's energy
- Estimated CO2 savings of 473 tonnes per year, equivalent to the energy use of 240 homes
- Demonstrated the commercial viability of large-scale rooftop solar for retail distribution, reducing energy costs and future carbon exposure
The Project
Lidl required a large rooftop solar system for its new distribution centre. The system needed to support more than 4,200 panels, provide a secure mounting solution and use high‑efficiency inverters to meet Lidl’s energy, carbon and cost targets. Enerpower led the Solar PV installation from start to finish and engaged Kellihers Renewables division to advise and act as their supplier and technical partner, sourcing top quality solar products. Kellihers Waterford provided the mounting, inverters and cables.
Highlights include:
- Procurement of premium components via Kellihers to ensure long-term reliability.
- Installation of Van der Valk’s ValkPro+ East/West flat-roof mounting to support the full array and optimise daily generation.
- Supply of SMA Tripower inverters and an SMA Inverter Manager for efficient conversion and control.
- Bespoke rooftop inverter mounting framework tailored to the site’s structure.
- Provided full electrical works: cabling, switchgear and containment.
